Contact us for preliminary discussions

Email us at research@pancreaticcancer.net.au to initiate preliminary discussions about your research proposal.  We suggest you familiarise yourself with our sample availability prior to contacting us. You will need to have prior institutional ethics approval for your project, or be able to justify sufficiently why this is not necessary.

Read the APGI BioSpecimen & Data Access Policy

You will need to agree to all the points highlighted in the application form pertaining to due diligence of BioSpecimen and clinical data use. For more information see the APGI BioSpecimen and Data Access Policy.

Read the Cost Recovery Guidelines

Comprehensive guidelines have been prepared to ensure researchers have a clear understanding of the costs associated with APGI biospecimen acquisition. Please access the document from the BioResource Cost Recovery page.

Complete the Avner APGI BioResource Request Form

There are 5 sections as follows to consider in the BioResource Request Form:

Section A – Applicant Details
Section B – Project Details
Section C – BioSpecimen Access
Section D – Clinical Data Access
Section E – Ethics

Sections A, B, and E are mandatory and must be completed. Sections C and D may be completed depending on your project needs, however please indicate at the beginning of each section if this is irrelevant.

Before outlining sample numbers, please consider if your research project is a pilot study. That is, proof of principle experiments which may lead to a subsequent larger scale project. As per the APGI Biospecimen and Data Access Policy (Section 3 ii), limited material is available for pilot study applications.

Submit your application form

Commence your submission from the button at the bottom of this page.

Please electronically sign the completed form, attach any relevant documentation, eg. ethics approval.

You may also save and resume your submission at any time. At the bottom of the form there is an option to ‘Save and continue later’. You will be prompted for an email address and you will be sent a link to allow you to resume your submission.

Application Review

The APGI Leadership Team will assess whether the application proposes a scientifically justifiable, feasible and high priority use of the material and/or data currently available. The applicant may be asked to respond to the committee’s comments in writing.

Application Approval

You will be notified following approval of your application for access to BioSpecimens. You will need to complete and sign the Garvan Material Transfer Agreement (MTA) if you are based outside the Garvan Institute. We will assist you in this process. Following this, the BioSpecimens will be couriered, clinical datasets provided and invoices will be issued.

Acknowledgement of APGI

We request that the APGI be acknowledged in publications arising from the use of BioSpecimens and/or data. This must appear in the Methods or Acknowledgements section as a minimum. Recommended wording is as follows: ‘Biospecimens and/or clinical data were provided by the Australian Pancreatic Cancer Genome Initiative (APGI, www.pancreaticcancer.net.au) which is supported by an Avner Pancreatic Cancer Foundation Grant (www.avnersfoundation.org.au)’.

Follow Up

We will contact you near the study completion date for information on the outcomes of your project.  All approved projects will be asked to provide feedback, which is very important to ongoing funding and public relations. Please access the online APGI BioResource Feedback Form here.
