Team Phil's Melbourne Marathon Success

Team Phil's effort in the Melbourne Marathon has now raised over $100, 000 for APGI's pancreatic cancer research! This year even more Team Phil members competed to beat pancreatic cancer, raising funds and awareness for this devastating disease.

Some of the Team Phil 10km Runners

On Sunday, October 14th, Team Phil members competed in the Melbourne Marathon Festival events. Team Phil is inspired by Philip Hemstritch, who lost his battle against pancreatic cancer in 2010. They compete to raise money for pancreatic cancer research and this year there were representatives competing in the marathon, half marathon, 10km and 5.7km runs.

A special congratulations goes to Jane Hemstritch, the founder of Team Phil, who tackled the marathon this year. After achieving a personal best in the half marathon last year, she accepted the challenge of a supporter "double the distance next year, I'll quadruple my donation". She did a fantastic job for her first marathon and finished in 5 hours 11 minutes and 15 seconds coming 41st in her age category!

Team Phil's fundraising efforts have made the Philip Hemstritch Fellowship in Pancreatic Cancer Research possible. This is a three year fellowship which has recently been awarded to Dr Marina Pajic, a promising early career scientist working within the APGI research team at the Garvan.
