2nd Melbourne Avner Walk A Success

Once again there was a great turnout to help raise pancreatic cancer awareness and funds for APGI's research

Sunday March 18 was a beautiful day on Sandringham Beach where the 2nd Melbourne Avner Nahmani Foundation Put your foot down walk was held. New North Melbourne AFL Player Tom Curran got the participants ready with a quick warm up and stretch before walkers passed under an Avner banner held up by Essendon players Tom Bellchambers and Scott Gumbleton. All three players were also signing merchandise on the day.

The 5 km return coastal walk had stunning scenery and we couldn't have asked for a better day; the sun was out, the water was clear and there was plenty of activity in the water with snorkelers, yachts and paddle-boarders passing by.

Once the participants returned, Mr Beak's put on a lovely sausage sizzle where Avner Nahmani co-founder Caroline Kelly donned a purple apron with matching sunglasses and headdress to help serve the hungry walkers. Deep Springs also had their specially marked purple Avner still water available. These bottles can be purchased at Woolworths with 10c from every bottle going towards the APGI's research into pancreatic cancer.

Over 140 registrants took part on the day and helped raise $12,163.50 for the Australian Pancreatic Cancer Genome Initiative. The highest individual fundraiser was Linda Carter-Guy with $2,125 whilst the highest fundraising team was Arthur's Team with $1,570. Congratulations to both on such a wonderful effort!
